Nov. 22nd, 2007 06:45 pmI think that's what I like in a good book- one that sits with you when you're done with it. I think a good novel makes you feel like the author just told your entire story, even though you've never experienced life in that way at all. It makes you shed three or four tears, just out of the sadness that it carries, and the hope that it finds through the tough things. I think that's what I like about young adult novels- really tough things happen, but there is a growth through them, a hope that struggles its way out. That's the kind of story I want to write.
(I just finished "Lucas," by Kevin Brooks.)
In other news, my Thanksgiving-on-my-own has turned out remarkably well. I made stuffing and mashed potatoes and peas, and they all taste like heaven. Maybe later on I'll get hungry again and eat my appetizers and dessert. We'll see. I talked to my sister for the first real time in months, which was really nice. We talked about the books and stories we're going to write, and about how ridiculous break-ups can be. And about stuffing.
That's all for now, friends.
