Aug. 20th, 2006 03:08 pmSo I'm taking a Sabbatical this fall, and I'm pretty darn excited about it. Would you like to hear the tentative/ideal plans?
1. October 18th-ish: Leave with Sue, Jossey, and Sr. Anna to road trip to Des Moines for the National Catholic Worker Gathering.
2. Get myself back to the Twin Cities to spend time with my family for a week.
3. Train it to Milwaukee to stay with my roommate Maureen while attending the Call To Action Conference (November 3rd through 5th long weekend).
4. Fly to Baltimore or Boston to visit friendly people for a few days.
5. Bus myself to NYC to visit Shannon in the monkhouse. And play at the UN.
6. Bus myself (ourselves?) to Ft. Benning to go to the SOA vigil for the first time in three years.
7. Maybe ride back with the Creighton folks to Omaha, and train it back to Denver -or- fly back to Denver on my own -or- fly back with the Regis group.
8. Be back in Denver by Thanksgiving.
9. Be amazing.
The reason these plans are not-so-final is that I have to wait to hear back from folks about transportation details, etc.
The coolest thing about this (aside from it actually happening) is that it was more than encouraged for me to do by my supervisor at work. I flippantly said one day how cool it would be to go to the CTA conference, but that I would need to take off a month or two of work to do all these cool things. She said, "I think you should do it, Theresa!" Well, okay, if you insist, Tavie! She's going to give me the time off and let me just come on back to work when I get back to Denver. We've got a new AmeriCorps member starting at work soon who will help with children's programs, and we have volunteers, so we should be fine. And I get to travel around the country doing cool stuff. I'm going to make it happen logistically and financially, and it's going to be wonderful and rejuvenating. NEAT!!!!
Also, last night I talked with Shannon on the phone for at least four hours, and while we are always devising new ways to save the world, last night's plan seems to be our current favorite. Let me just say that my new Saving The World Motto is going to be: I'm married to Tony Molek and I run a leftist newspaper, so suck it up!
So life is good, and I have few complaints today.
