Aug. 18th, 2006 10:42 amOh, ridiculously bored.... I'm at work, with hours left in the day (Fridays are my long day, eight whole hours instead of four or five), and I really have nothing on my "to-do" list for the day. I have to sort some donations, and that's about it. There's maybe one kid around, since most of them are back in school, starting this week. The kids have been bears this week, daily taking their "I'm a little shit" pills. Apparently the normal amount of structure I bring to our evening time outside is too much to handle the week they go back to school. I am clearly a mean lady for not letting them play in and drench themselves in muddy water. Gosh, I'm cruel. They were really crappy about it, though, so I had to put on my not-nice pants, which didn't help things. So last night, to make up for my crabbiness the night before, I thought we'd do something different to not be tempted by the mud. So we had ourselves a Back To School Parade, complete with backpacks and musical instruments, and we paraded ourselves up to the soccer fields a few blocks away. Gosh we were cute! :) Then they just ran and ran and ran at the soccer fields, til they were sweaty and asking to go back to the playground. Well, it seems they thought that after we got back, they'd have their regular hour on the playground, so when I told them we were going inside in ten minutes, I had two boys start the waterworks on me. Try as I might, it didn't seem to phase them when I told them that it made me feel bad when they kept complaining when I tried to do something nice and different with them. Then I sort of strong-armed them back inside, and alternated feeling defeated and resilient about the whole evening.
On other notes, the situation is looking much better and lots less lonely since I was here (on LJ) last. Eric moved in, though it took him damn long enough. I'm still getting used to him being around; last week, every morning that I heard him in the kitchen before I got up, I thought to myself, "Why is Doug here so early in the morning?" Nicky is also back, which is wonderful. It's been like a slumber party for me all week, hanging out with her, staying up late late late at night, while we talk, read, clean house, cook, and (shhh!) play video games together. Nicky came back the same night that Mana and Nick came out to visit for a long weekend. There are few things better than having your best friend in town, especially while getting to excitedly share your life with her and hearing all the newness that she's experiencing. At the point in my life when all my local friends know me well, but have also only known me for two years, Mana is a great comfort. In addition to the fact that she's tons of fun.
Other notes:
--Sylvia moves in next week. Neat!
--Someone donated Valentine's candy- just what we need six months after/before the day.
--New userpic showing off my behind on our playground build day here at work.
--Plans for my sabbatical are slowly coming along. More details to follow!
--I did get myself some medical insurance, paid for my the state of Colorado- hooray! I'm not ill, but it's nice to have insurance with small co-pays available to me, for which I don't have to pay a monthly fee.
--Still very, very bored. And it's only 11:30 now. BLECH!
