Mar. 8th, 2005 09:05 amIn the day of the Lord, the sun will shine
Like the dawn of eternal day
All creation will rise
To dance and sing to
The glory of the Lord!
And on that day will justice triumph!
On that day will all be free!
Free from want,
Free from fear,
Free to live!
I feel as if I’m having the best days ever. Retreat this weekend up at the Snowmass Monastery was awesome. It felt good to have a retreat that didn’t involve some sort of mental breakdown for me. Instead, I got some good reading done, as well as some writing, prayer, and discussion. I really needed the weekend to get some different perspective on the business that’s been happening in my head lately. Getting away from the everyday really helped me remember that what I think are the most pressing matters to think about, obsess over, and discuss endlessly- those aren’t always the best methods to use to make decisions. Stepping away really helped, and in the context of being at a monastery, their presence and way of life are so calming.
I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m doing next year (it seems to be all anyone could focus on before retreat). After talking to William on Tuesday some more about how the plans to start a Worker in Omaha are going, plus just some discussion about values and I don’t know what else, I’m not as certain that that’s the plan I want or am called to yet. Omaha might still be, and maybe his and Cait’s Worker will be where I end up, but I don’t know. I think I need a place that nurtures my faith actively. I have to find out where that is and how that works.
Then on Sunday after we got back from retreat, Ryan and I talked for quite a while about some other possibilities- namely, starting a Worker here in Colorado. It’s not a real plan, but it was fun and encouraging to toss around some ideas.
Yesterday, we had mass and dinner at our house, complete with SBST groups from St. Cloud and Creighton! So many great people, best of all including a glorious Jill Westfall! I get to see them again on Thursday (we’re eating at Delores House, a women’s shelter), and hopefully more. It’s just so good to see her. I’m so excited for all that she has ahead of her, and I’m glad I get to be a little part of it.
In my excitement of seeing Jill, and of finding out I could get a day off of work, I bought a train ticket to Omaha for a week and a half from now! So I’ll be visiting the 18th through the 20th, and I couldn’t be more excited. Who wants to pick me up at the train station at 5:30 on Friday morning?
Also, I talked to a cute boy on the phone last night, and he wants to hang out with me and the roomies this weekend. And he’s nice, and fun, and funny, and talks a lot, and likes service. He’s a former JVC from Boulder, and I enjoy his company the few times we’ve hung out. Last night when I finally got around to calling him, he said, “Oh, so your phone does make out-going calls!” :) So I think he’s going bowling with us for Lisa’s birthday this weekend.
So life is good these days, and I just keep smiling.
