entry from a few days ago.....
Jul. 31st, 2003 10:20 pmThis update is a bit belated, and I don’t mind that. I had a really nice weekend- unexpectedly relaxing and nice. Friday was a day off of work- I think I’d said that- and so I did a lot of nothing. I did call Jen’s cell phone to see what was going on, as I’d heard through the Mana-grapevine that Jen and Codak might be in the Cities for the weekend. And then I did some more nothing, if I remember correctly. Saturday, I’d planned on sleeping in and then getting all psyched to have people over for movie night, even though I’d only heard that Annette and Shannon would be able to come. My mom and I were going to go shopping, but as we were getting ready, the phone rang, and it was my beautiful Jen! She and Codak were in fact in town, and they were on their way over to the MOA before heading to Rochester (to see Jen’s future roommate) for the afternoon. She invited me with, and before I knew it, my mom’d changed her shopping location to the MOA, and I’d been convinced to ride along to Rochester for the day! I bummed around the mall for a bit- first time I’d been there since I took Vicky and her Jenny last summer- and then we were off. And we just had a nice afternoon, catching up and yapping and holding hands. I hadn’t seen or even talked to those two since Jen’s 21st birthday back before graduation. The afternoon just made me smile. When I came home, my parents had been nice enough to go out and rent the movie I’d wanted to get for that evening, and they’d also picked up some snacks for us. My parents don’t outwardly say it, but I think they get really excited when I have a group of people over. It’s not that it convinces them that I have a social life or anything, but I think they just like to see me having fun over at our house. I remember how excited they were last summer the night they came home and found a group of us all curled up watching “Hair.” So they were all cute and got my stuff for the little get-together, and then they steered clear of the whole shindig. Shannon and Ben ended up showing up on time, with Sara and Aaron coming later on, and Annette couldn’t make it after all. But we had a ball, without watching even a moment of a movie. :) We talked and talked, and ate chips, and played Cranium- only because Aaron MADE us. :) Things that had never happened before:
--Shannon discussed her favorite dative something from Latin.
--Aaron sculpted a nipple out of play-doh.
--I was informed that MY field of study (well, the social sciences) does not exist, much like the way I claim physics not to exist.
We had such a fun evening. At one point, Sara and I ran away from the physics chatter into the other room, where we just spent some good time catching up. Cathy played Cranium with us, and I really enjoyed her company. I’ve really enjoyed her company quite a bit this summer, actually. She’s been good to have some talks with, and she seems to have gained a lot more maturity in recent months. But the whole crowd stayed until 2:30, at which point I cleaned up and went upstairs to my room to find my dad, who had been patiently waiting for us to finish our fun, asleep in my room. Awww, we pooped him out! :)
Sunday was Cathy’s 18th birthday, so we were up bright and early to let her friends in to surprise her for breakfast. Leslie came over for dinner and stayed a while, so we got a chance to get all caught up.
I’ve just been in a good mood recently, just because things have been going so well. I sent off an email to my practicum supervisor that I needed to write, so that made me feel a bit productive. I do seem to have caught another cold, though, which perturbs me a bit. Maybe I’ll start taking vitamins or something. I had low iron last week when I tried to give blood. I just like to think that I am the picture of health and immune systems, so I get a little displeased when I’m not. But! I went school supply shopping tonight, and that made me happy in a fun way. Mana reminded me tonight of how she and I used to get together the day before school started to show each other our school supplies. :) So I got new folders and notebooks and things, and dissuaded myself from getting all the adorable things that I would love but have no use for. It also got a bit difficult trying to balance that part of me that wants bright pink things covered in colorful flowers with that part of me that is a professional social worker. I try to keep myself reserved every so often. Maybe.
