We spent last night out at Nick’s parents’ cabin on Lake Okoboji, for a community getaway. I really enjoyed myself. I think I could spend eternity sitting at the front of a speedboat, feeling the wind press against my face, almost squishing my glasses into my eyes, just grinning and loving the rush. I would stay there forever. It was so good to be able to be away from everything here, to start the last-week-wrap-up where we didn’t have to focus on what has to be done around here, if the phone is ringing, who hasn’t done their chores, etc. And with school being over, we can talk about things that aren’t classes. Can you imagine- we all exist as people with identities outside of school-related-things, like classes, majors, and plans for next year. Kat and Jeff and I stayed up and talked for an hour and a half after everyone else went to bed, and I was glad. Kat’s been spending more time at the little house recently, and it’s been really good to get to know her better. Not only is she awesome, but it will also make next year go more smoothly, with her, KP, and I being the only ones returning. So she and Jeffy and I talked, dug into what community has meant for us this year, and things like that.
All weekend long (here and at Okoboji), I have had this amazingly wonderful feeling of not having anything to do, and I like it a lot. I know I wouldn’t want it to last all summer, but wow is it nice to have for a week. I have no schoolwork hanging over my head, no projects, no incompletes to finish, nada. I just get to hang around the houses, eat chocolate, clean the basement, go grocery shopping, go to the lake, help move people in, and just be a putz. Even the things that could seem like chores don’t feel like they are since they aren’t in addition to all the other things that normally need to happen. It feels good to have this week.
The moral of the story is that if I get to choose how my heaven is going to be, it will be me forever flying and zooming at the front of a speedboat, grinning and grinning. And holding hands with my favoritest friends.
